[i]veleda_k posting in [i]feminist_fandom: Kink, sex, and gender

I've written up a post about sexuality, kink, and dominance in fandom, especially fanfic.

In which I use fandom and kink to confuse myself

[i]meradragon: Things I saw

Things I saw on the way back to San Francisco:

A large police escort protecting two jets being driven on the other side of the freeway

5 raccoons going inside of a trash can.

another raccoon leaping out as I kicked said trash can half an hour later when I needed to throw my trash away.

The middle of nowhere

many hawks, falcons, owls, and... cows.

impossible number of farm fields

... obviously the first half was more exciting than the last half. I'm home!

[i]onesto_hotel: MGS WTF

So how is it that I've only spent two days on MGS4 and I'm already at Act 5?

VIDEO GAMES KEEP GETTING SHORTER AND SHORTER I SWEAR, KIDS THESE DAYS, BACK IN MY DAY VIDEO GAMES TOOK MONTHS TO BEAT BLAH BLAH BLAH

I killed all the bosses in my USUAL MANLY FASHION, i.e. stamina-killing all around, but uh, I sort of killed a ton of frogs at the end of Act 3 because I suck at chase-scene things. I also used up four freakin' continues at the part with the gekkou after the Vamp fight, which was ridiculous. I was so ashamed of myself.

I'm not really enjoying the B&B corps fights very much. Not sure why, but they just...feel tedious. Like they mostly consist of me hiding under something and then shooting the chick for a ridiculously long amount of time, then stun grenading some model and KO-ing her in about 30 seconds. ("Oh hi Raging Raven, I am staring at your butt. I know I'm an old man and all, but my ass is much better than yours.") I found most of the MGS and MGS2 boss fights to be really hard, and I found most of the MGS3 bosses to be really easy. So far...they just take a really really long time. This might just be my overly cautious nature taking over, idk. Then again, I did kill Sniper Wolf with Nikitas and spent too much time sniping at The Boss with the Mosin-Nagant until I realized that I'd have to CQC her if I wanted to end the fight in 10 minutes.

Call me crazy, but it hasn't really felt very...Metal Gear-y these part couple acts (3 and 4). I dunno, I'm just having real mixed feelings about the whole thing. (My Otacon love is coming back though, lol. I keep flip-flopping about whether I like him as a character or not. I flip-flop about Meryl and Naomi too, although in Naomi's case, it's less a case of "do I like you or not" and more a case of "do I find you mildly tolerable or despise you". With Meryl, I think I felt pretty meh about her in MGS1 and still feel meh about her in MGS4.)

...I still love Ocelot, god I love Ocelot. *shameless fan*

Two days until I go back to college, oh boy.

[i]kaitou_marina: Order Warrior

I just somehow managed to wrangle complete chaos into order at work.

AM I AWESOME OR WHAT?

This is a definite "take victories where I can"-type of day. XD

[i]demonicchaos896 posting in [i]gen_grievous: Music Video!

Hey everyone! I was bored the other day and I made a music video! In the most recent episodes of Clone Wars everyone is trying to capture Grievous, so that got me thinking about how annoying it must be to have people chasing you all the time...which led me to Paparazzi! XD lol It's a little bit of a stretch, but I like how it came out anyway. XD Enjoy!

[i]velasco: Festergut down!

And wow, that was tight. Killed him several seconds past enrage with a bubbled tank on the...third try? (Unfortunately not me, mine was still on cd from tanking. :() I hate to say it but replacing one dps with a higher dps made the difference from wiping at 500k. We have a small problem still with one or two people forgetting to spore stack and only taking 2 stacks of innoculate and giving me heart attacks when they survive an exhale with sub 1k health. o_o; But overall, good performance, great communication, excellent tank cd management. And naturally the rogue legs dropped, and naturally tham was not on his rogue.

Rotface can suck a dick. >_> 40% on the best attempt, slimes just get overwhelming. Need to make a mouseover cleanse macro, decursive isn't working when 4 people have the debuff and I only should be cleansing the one who is near me at the moment - which one is that? I DUNNO D: But yeah, while we COULD go back for another wipe night, I think I'mma let it be for now. Stomach still hurts today, housecleaning and cooking need to get done, and I could stand to level my warrior or help gear up guild alts.

Warrior tank pet peeves, volume 1:
DPS who refuse to attack the skull target. I don't mark them for kicks; I'd prefer that the mob who heals or the one who casts an aoe "fuck the melee" fire spell die first. I COULD hold aggro on all the mobs, it's not the point. Although it's fun to tell you if you pull it off me and it's not the skull mob you can keep it, and then watch you die. The point is, you farting around with this guy means other dangerous dude is not dying fast enough, has cast his "fuck the melee" spell, and now 2 people are low/dead because you couldn't get on target. That, and everyone attacking everything means I have to do more effort to get aoe threat than tclap/shout/swave, which makes LazyVel pissed.

DPS who wait until everyone rolls greed on a particular item, then need on it, even when they don't need or shouldn't even be using the item. This also goes for frozen orb ninjas - woo, grats on your 5g and my ignore.

Druids who cyclone shit for fun. Yes, I see that you have that spell. Did you know that when you do that, my thunderclap and shockwave don't affect it, so when it's over and the mob runs for the healer, those tools are now on cd?

DKs. I've met a few good ones; the rest abuse their death grip and army junk endlessly. You death grip it, you can keep it.

Stolen shamelessly from [info]thehornedgod

"It's fascinating for me that at this stage of my life I suddenly find... that people are beginning... to look upon me... as... a metal... singer. Symphonic metal, but none the less, metal."

If you thought Christopher Lee just couldn't be any more awesome, prepare for his symphonic metal album about Charlemagne to redefine your preconceptions about how awesome it is possible to be.

Well, I was gonna play more MGS4 tonight, but apparently Aladdin is on tv tonight and I sort of want to watch it just for old times' sake. I mean, dude, I wanted to be Jafar when I was a little kid. I guess I was a little strange as a child... XD

THIS POST WILL BE EDITED INTO A MINI ARTDUMP SHORTLY OK I LIED

I worked on a bunch of drawings earlier in the day, but I didn't really finish anything, although I did have fun goofing around by drawing a scowly dude in my private pchat. Total time spent on drawing: roughly 2 minutes.

Ok, that's enough messing around. Time to try and finish that improvement meme (hopefully).

OH, lol, stuff-that-happened update.

Christmas: was awesome, my family left for the weekend (its no really a family holiday for Russians, our Xmas is on the 7th Jan). I went from friends house to friends house taking advantage of their Christmas spirits (and Christmas dinners).
Eventually i ended up at a friends place watching Christmas movies:
DIE HARD
KISS KISS BANG BANG
TOP GUN (by the time we watched this one, Christmas was officially over and we just needed an excuse to watch it)

New year: spent the first part with family. The 2nd part partying at a club with class mates until 9am. was epic.

Today: Got rejected by Cambridge.
But got over it by:
1. I have an offer from UCL, which is as awesome
2. Getting pissed off, because 2 people (interviewers) i don't even know decided whether im good enough or not. Which put me off Cambridge in general (a great way to get over Cambridge is to end up hating it...(which is illogical, but helps the coping))

[i]onesto_hotel: I am making this much harder than it needs to be

So after seeing the art improvement memes of [info]drawinks , [info]celesjessa and others, I tried to do one of my own.

...and then I realized that I have no idea how to change the size of cropped images in photoshop, so I screwed around with that for a half-hour or so before giving up.

Just looking through some of my older art on deviantArt is painful enough. Revisiting 2003 is the worst though, oh god. It was the year of eyeballs that took up 2/3 of people's faces.

[i]goggalicious: I missed my customary "omg Happy Hogmanay look how Scottish I am" post by a week, so here's a meme.

First Fandom of 2009: The first one that STARTED was probably WoW or Lackadaisy, but the fandom I was in at this time last year was VERY MSPA.
Favorite Main Character of 2009: All of Team Sleuth. Or any of the Homestuck kids. Or Wayward Vagab-OKAY LET'S JUST GO WITH ALL OF MSPA OKAY
Favorite Villain of 2009: Uh, I don't really have one. I don't think Mordecai really counts as a villain in Lackadaisy as he's so damn complex and may be more of a Snape-type character(You know, more antagonist than villain). Maybe the Savoys do, I guess.
Favorite Video Game Character of 2009: Maguro, probably. Possibly because he was the closest thing Puyo 7 had to Oshare. :B
Favorite Game of 2009: World of Warcraft, probably.
Favorite Het Couple of 2009: Problem Sleuth/Hysterical Dame. HOLY SHIT NEW OTP. Also, Ando/Klug. NERDY ROMANCE IS AWESOME ROMANCE.
Favorite Yuri Couple of 2009: Hysterical Dame/Nervous Broad. (I usually don't see the girlslash pairings other people see, but omg I totally see this one.)
Favorite Yaoi Couple of 2009: Don't think I have one, but I'm sort of leaning towards John's Dad/Dave's Bro despite the lack of evidence and IT'S ALL [info]googolbugle'S FAULT. Unless PS/AD/PI counts. I kind of ship that as well.
Fandom That You Never Expected To Get Into: World of Warcraft. WHAT THIS GAME IS ACTUALLY FUN WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED
Fandom That Made An Unexpected Comeback: Puyo Puyo AND Lackadaisy.
Fandom That Inspired The Most Crack: MS PAINT ADVENTURES. HOLY SHIT, MS PAINT ADVENTURES. ONLY [info]icebilby WOULD KNOW HOW DEEP THAT CRACK RUNS JUST NOW.
Last Fandom of 2009: Still MSPA. THIS FANDOM HAS ITS HOOKS IN ME I TELLS YA.

[i]rantipole6: Zunis and Zombies

Kid: (playing Zombie Fluxx) I win because I have two friend Keepers

Me: Good for you. Friends are good to have.

Kid: Not really. They seem like they'd be good with zombies around, but they'd probably want favors like they'd ask me to go somewhere dangerous in a van to help them pick up their girlfriend.

Me: You have a girlfriend, so maybe you'd help them pick up their girlfriends and then they'd help you pick up yours.

Kid: No way. I'd tell them I was going to help them pick up their girlfriend, but that we should pick up mine first because she's closer, but I'd be lying. Then after they helped me, I'd kick them out of the car to give the Zombies a meal so that me and my girlfriend could make our getaway.

Me: That's not ethical.

Kid: There are no ethics in a zombie apocalypse, Miss G.

There is a Native American student who hangs around my classroom after school to play Zombie Fluxx. This game has almost nothing to do with math, but I keep it in the classroom anyway. The funny thing is that I just recently found out his ethnicity (Zuni, to be specific), and for this last year, I assumed he was some combination of white and hispanic. I remember reading an article back in college about faults in the US census collection process that causes Native Americans to be grossly under-represented and in some cases, invisible. Denver is supposed to have one of the largest urban populations of Native Americans, but most people assume that they are hispanic when they see them. I wonder how often I have made that mistake with students.

[i]kaitou_marina: I <3 Everyone!

Thank you so much for all the well-wishes on my birfdei, everyone! <3 Especially you, [info]innate, who surprised me with a gift certificate for Adagio! Since I don't often catch people on messenger at the moment, I'll say a very huge THANK YOU right here! Thank you thank you thank you! I really hope we can see you soon.

[info]kurikara_ryuoh had her little nephew sing "happy birthday" to me over the phone, and [info]la_vie_noire gave me a heads up (I MISS YOU BB <3) and [info]mikkeneko got me a cake and [info]seleraleonhart got me manga and [info]chiba_yuriko is taking me to see the Pacific Northwest Ballet's SLEEPING BEAUTY in February! <333333333333333333

For my birthday, I dragged people out shopping since I don't do that much. I got cute new bras and a few new shirts because I desperately need new clothes. I got to have Cold Stone and Panda for dinner and then 'Isha and I watched our new Holic collection. <3 All in all it was a great day with lots of squishiness from everyone. <3

OKAY! PLANS FOR SATURDAY FOR MY BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR EVERYBODY! I get off work at 5:30 that day, so I was thinking maybe we could all meet at the Cinebarre in Mountlake Terrace for the 6:30 showing of Avatar. I know probably everyone's seen it already T.T but I haven't and I really want to. And I've wanted to go to the Cinebarre for a while. For those of you who don't mind coming back to our place afterward, there will be Clod Stone cake for the having and it will be delicious. And people can hang out if they want. What does everyone think? Sound cool? We could probably do the 7pm one instead of that would work better for people. Lemme know!

(DAMNIT my paid account expired rawr no icons LOL XD)

[i]onesto_hotel: omg omg omg

I NOW KNOW THE ANSWER TO QUESTION 114 ON THE CAPSLOCK_MGS QUIZ AND I FEEL SO STRANGELY FUFILLED BY THIS.

I was playing one of the games (I can't say which one!) and then the second the scene started I immediately recognized the music and began screaming. It was ridiculous.

FLY YOU'VE TURNED ME INTO A NUTCASE WITH THIS QUIZ, I SWEAR TO GOD.

...and I'm pretty sure that was the whole point of the quiz too.

In unrelated news, I think I need a new nib for my tablet pen. I've been saying that for a couple months, but at this point it's so worn down on several sides that little shards of plastic are starting to peel off of the side of it. The nib is more of a nub now. I didn't even start doing much digital art until the last several months, so either the plastic they're made out of is kind of crappy, or I am unreasonably hard on my pen while drawing. Both explanations seem plausible.

Man, I officially have less than a week of vacation left, so I'm going to do as much slacking off as humanly possible.

[i]sierrawave: end of year stuff

Wow I didn't realize it had been that long since I've posted here. I'm only slightly more active on Facebook. Anyway, so that last post I posted back in October. The weather continued to trend cold to the point where we had a true white Christmas for the first time since I was small. In fact it wasn't just a white one but a full-on blizzard that dumped 8-12inches of icy death from above. Now we're wallowing in a deep with temps hovering around zero degrees F. I'm now officially done with winter. It can go away now. And the job losses at H@llm@rk. I managed to squeak by with my job in tact, but many people I liked got dumped. Some of them took early retirement, some were actually more than happy to do so. I heard the severance packages softened the blow. But a few of my non-retirement eligible friends were lost. I'll especially miss West, who answered questions for me quite often. It was a week that I don't soon want to repeat...like waiting for someone to die. They have said since 2010 is our 100th anniversary, they're freezing any further layoffs for one year. I guess that's why they were so hot to get rid of so many of us in October. Oh well. My friend Rita and I had lunch the other day with our boss who got fired. Even after two months it's still emotional for her. She wasn't ready to retire. Here's hoping 2010 sucks slightly less than 2009 did. I've been making necklaces like a fiend the past few months and finding I really enjoy it. I enjoy it so much I'm thinking of starting a hobby business so maybe I can get some of my supplies tax deducted next year. I think it might be fun. I think I'll talk to my taxman about it. So the last time it was actually warm was the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. That was the day my friends and I went to the KU/ MU border war football game. We tailgated because the weather was so nice. I have never seen anything like it in my life. The parking lot of the stadium was completely full of people just hanging out...some with TVs showing other football games... EVERYONE with delicious food of some sort. Most of it being barbecued right in the parking lot. The air hung thick with the mouth watering aroma of charcoaled animal flesh. Yum. The game was good and for the most part the KU fans had more to cheer about than MU but in the end MU pushed ahead of us for the win. It was still terribly fun though. The deer now spend so much time in my yard I practically consider them pets. They are eating the leaves of my boxwood again.
